Where a dock is working equipment
Bokeelia sits at the north end of Pine Island, and it wears its working-waterfront character honestly. Docks up here are not decoration. They are where the day starts: rods loaded before light, boats going out and coming back on a real schedule, tie-ups that see traffic all year. A dock that only has to look good in a sunset photo has an easy life. A Bokeelia dock does not.
Geography is the other half of the story. There is water on three sides of you: Charlotte Harbor to the north, Matlacha Pass to the east, Pine Island Sound to the west. Whatever direction the wind picks today, there is open water behind it. Protected on one side usually means exposed on another, so we build for the side that is not sheltered rather than the one that is.
We work from the barge, which is the sane way to reach Pine Island water. Pilings, materials and crew arrive from the water side, so nothing rolls down your driveway or across your yard. The owner comes out first, free, walks the dock and the lift, and tells you straight what is solid, what is wearing and what is on the clock.

Harbor to the north, pass to the east, Sound to the west. Wind and chop can show up from almost anywhere, and there is no permanently calm side to hide behind. Piling depth and honest framing carry more weight here than they do on a tucked-away canal.
Salt on every piece of hardware
Open salt water on three sides keeps everything damp and salted: fasteners, connectors, lift cables, motor housings. Corrosion is the slow leak that costs people docks. Salt-rated hardware from day one and a yearly look at the cables beats buying the same part twice.
